As a community that lived through Hurricane Hugo, we remember how Jewish Communities in the US & Canada responded, as did Israel. This is our turn.
Hurricane Helene has struck the east coast as a powerful Category 4 storm, bringing with it wind speeds exceeding 140 mph, a storm surge expected to surpass 20 feet, and more than 15 inches of rainfall, causing widespread flooding and damage across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Entire communities have been plunged into darkness, with homes and businesses severely impacted and cut off from main roadways. Thousands of residents have been displaced, and Jewish communities - including Camp Judaea which is a home away from home for many Charleston-area Jewish kids - are facing urgent needs for recovery, aid, and rebuilding.
In addition to Hurricane Helene, we are responding to the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton, which has also left a trail of destruction in its path. Jewish Federations are working tirelessly to assist communities affected by both storms through the Hurricane Emergency Relief Fund, ensuring that Jewish communities and those affected receive the assistance they need. 100% of your donation will go directly to this comprehensive effort.
Donations can also be made by calling the CJF Office at 843-614-6484 to pay by credit card.
Or send a check to Charleston Jewish Federation with note: Hurricane and mail to 176 Croghan Spur Road, Suite 100, Charleston, SC 29407
